  34. MFTC:  Mutual Fund Tax Calculator, 16-bit edition, has been tested by RCCO 
  35. Research to work with Windows 95.

  40. Installation
  41. -------------
  42. To install MFTC:  Mutual Fund Tax Calculator, simply copy all files in
  43. this package to a directory/folder of your choosing; we suggest creating 
  44. a new directory named \MFTC (or, in Windows 95, a sub-folder named MFTC ).  
  45. The MFTC package should be placed in a directory/folder of its own (rather 
  46. than being commingled with other files or programs in the same 
  47. directory/folder).

  49. You may then launch the program from File Manager or Explorer by double-
  50. clicking on MFTC.EXE.  You may also create a new program item/shortcut 
  51. for MFTC in any desired program group or folder, specifying the pathname 
  52. to MFTC.EXE as the command line, as well as indicating the same directory 
  53. as the working directory (required in Windows 3.1).  The program's icon is 
  54. contained within MFTC.EXE and may be specified as the displayed icon.  You 
  55. may then, in Windows 3.1, double-click on the program's icon to launch 
  56. MFTC; in Windows 95, simply select the Start menu item for MFTC, or launch 
  57. from the appropriate folder.

  59. In Windows 95, to add this program to your Start Menu:
  60.     1. Click on Start.
  61.     2. Move the mouse pointer up to Settings.
  62.     3. Click on Taskbar...
  63.     4. Select the 'Start Menu Programs' tab.
  64.     5. Click on Add.
  65.     6. Click on Browse, then navigate to the application's executable
  66.          file, MFTC.EXE, by first double-clicking to the folder or 
  67.          sub-folder in which it exists.  Select MFTC.EXE.  Click on Open.
  68.     7. Now the Command line shows the path to the MFTC
  69.          executable file.  Click on Next.
  70.     8. Choose a folder in which the shortcut to the program will
  71.          appear (or select New Folder if one is desired).
  72.     9. Click on Next.
  73.    10. At the prompt 'Select a name for the shortcut,' type in
  74.          "MFTC."
  75.    11. Click on Finish.  This returns you to the Taskbar Properties
  76.          window.  Click on OK.

  79. The online documentation may be read after launching MFTC by selecting the
  80. <Documentation> button or Documentation menu item on the main program 
  81. screen, or by pressing <F1>.  Pressing the <Documentation> button brings up 
  82. the Contents page of the MFTC Help; from the Contents page, you may click 
  83. on an item to go directly to a topic, or click the >> (Next) button on the 
  84. Windows help screen to browse through the topics in documentation sequence.  
  85. Pressing <F1> while the focus is on other components usually provides 
  86. context-sensitive help.

  88. You may also open the included MFTC.WRI file in Windows 3.1 Write or
  89. Windows 95 WordPad (or any Windows word processor that can read the Write 
  90. file format, such as Microsoft Word) and print (recommended) or view a 
  91. formatted version of the documentation from that program.

  100. MFTC requires an 80386sx or greater processor, Windows 3.1 or Windows 95, 
  101. 2mb ram, 1.6mb hard disk space.

  106. v2.0 Release Notes
  107. -------------------
  108. There are several new features implemented in v2.0 of MFTC:  Record Number
  109. Indicator in both Form & Table Views, Edit/Non-Edit Cell indicator in
  110. Table View, Detail View window available in Table View, enhanced data
  111. entry error messaging, system information functions, expanded menu items,
  112. MRU (most recently used) fund table list on the File Menu, significant 
  113. documentation revisions -- to name several.

  115. We have been most pleased at the excellent registration response for MFTC; 
  116. it has, in a very short period of time, become one of our most popular and 
  117. often-registered programs.  The response from investors has been very 
  118. encouraging.  We have also been pleasantly surprised by the receipt of 
  119. orders from investment advisors and financial planners for multiple copies 
  120. of MFTC to give away or resell to their clients.

  122. The suggestions and comments from many users, including both novice and 
  123. experienced investors, have been extensive, thoughtful, and always 
  124. well-considered by RCCO Research; several suggestions from registered 
  125. users are implemented within the new version.

  127. It is solely because of the interest and registration support resulting 
  128. from the initial versions (1.x) that we are happy to provide the 
  129. development of new features and revision in this release.  We can 
  130. only hope that each new user of an unregistered copy will allow enough 
  131. evaluation time to adequately appreciate that which MFTC can offer in 
  132. the areas of tax-planning and portfolio management.

  181. A companion product, MFTC32:  Mutual Fund Tax Calculator for 32-bit Windows 
  182. is available from RCCO Research in a 32-bit edition.  It is similar to, but 
  183. not exactly like, the present work entitled MFTC:  Mutual Fund Tax 
  184. Calculator, 16-bit edition.  The two editions have different registration 
  185. fees, due to the program sizes and number of disks involved for each.  The
